My Reaction to Suicide

I can name 6 people in the past several years that I’ve shut down hard who shortly thereafter committed suicide, not that it had anything to do with me, I obviously detected and reacted to something they put off – but I misread them and took the wrong course of action.  These people aroused my anger when I should have been patient, perceptive and of course compassionate.  I’ve finally learned two lessons from these occurrences:  First, you never know what’s going on in someone else’s head.  And second, people don’t act the way the feel – fear masked in anger, sadness masked in anger, hopelessness masked in anger.  If someone is pushing my buttons, I’m better served to step back and evaluate what’s really going on.  A gentleman named Paul committed suicide on Veterans Day.  I hope I can say he’s the last person I did this to.
