Some Protein Powders have Too Much Cholesterol

There are some fine, great tasting, and comprehensive protein powders on the market, but I’ve discovered the better they taste – the more cholesterol they tend to have.  For many this isn’t a problem, but for athletes who consume massive amounts of protein – well – they can really add up.  For Example:  Syntha–6 by BSN is a great product, but it has 60 mgs of cholesterol per serving, almost 1/3 of our daily allowance!  So if you’re taking 3 scoops a day – that’s it, anymore cholesterol and you’re over the top.  Whey proteins tend to be quite low in cholesterol, but I do recommend comprehensive protein powders with all 6 sources.  In summary, if you have cholesterol issues, pay attention to the labels – not the taste – you might be significantly running up your HDL without knowing it.
