Teamwork Is Everything!!

Officer Candidate School was extremely challenging for me academically, but my roommate (Brian Kerekes) was a soon to be nuclear engineer who forged 1,317 flashcards with 5 questions per card so we could master the material.  He also tutored me through celestial navigation and other mind benders.  I’d like to think I helped Brian at the bars and in scrubbing the floors before inspection (we passed every one), but I certainly got the better end of that deal.  Teamwork got us through!  And the teamwork of every cadet helped most of us get through.  I’ve kept those flashcards for 23 years as an enduring symbol of friendship and teamwork.  (Here are the questions from the first card I picked from the deck:  What are the traits and 9 uses of VHF, UHF, SHF and EHF?  What are the advantages and disadvantages of a termination list?  What are the 2 most common RATT systems used underway?  Define refraction and diffraction. What are the bread window and ginger bread procedures?)  And that was just one card.  Teamwork got me through that nightmare.  Pick a winning team and be a team player.  Brian – I still owe you my friend!!!

The flashcards, still in my OCS briefcase.
