Grapefruit is a truly unique food which speeds the metabolism, lowers cholesterol and blood sugar, prevents the formation of kidney stones and reduces your chances of lung cancer. For athletes and bodybuilders, it is purported to lower and correct blood iron levels (thick blood) by forcing the removal of dead red blood cells. Everyone should be eating a grapefruit a day or placing one in their veggie shakes. There is one DANGER; grapefruit is known to interact with over 90 commonly prescribed drugs. This is because grapefruit inhibits the livers ability to breakdown these drugs thereby increasing their half-life which magnifies their effects. But isn’t this just another great reason to get off the damn drugs? Let food be thy medicine and medicine they food – Hippocrates.
