The Mission – A Navy Poem from 1994

Candy colored snake – nostalgia, crushing your gum drop head, warms the heel of my boot.

While red orders are executed, like all executions, quick, without thought.

My white pawns, check professional, I demand it, God damn it.

Sleepless pits of eyes, foreshadowing age, await the step of a careless foot.

And the waves blend through, one day to the next, smearing my calendar…..

The mission continues…..
